Construction Update
I wanted to apologize for the mess at the club and update you on the project.
We engaged a landscaping firm in June to make several improvements to the club:
- Grade and re-gravel the parking lot.
- Excavate the area along the front fence from the Court 1 corner to the gate between Courts 1 and 2 in order to improve drainage. Plant a row of large flowering shrubs along the fence in place of the weeds that have graced that area for many years.
- Remove the large ash tree from the seating area to improve safety and reduce the amount of leaves and debris on court 1.
- Expand the seating area, cover in woodchips, and install semi-permanent shade sails over the main seating area as well as the “grandstand.”
- Plant a row of flowering shrubs along the pathway from the parking lot to the seating area and recover the walkway in woodchips.
- Plant a flowering tree at the entrance to the walkway in commemoration of Mike Posternak.
We chose a firm with a good reputation and references, expecting the work to be completed in July. Unfortunately, the company has failed to meet the schedule (obviously). Switching contractors would be difficult and expensive at this point, so we are trying to get the project completed with the same firm. I apologize for the delay and disruption. Any of you who have done home renovations knows how frustrating – and common – delays like this are. Please bear with us. It will be nice when it is complete.
Singles Tournament Schedule
The STC Singles Tournament is this weekend. The courts will be occupied this evening, and Saturday from 8-4, and Sunday from 8-2. Finals for all divisions will be on Sunday. They are always great matches, so come on down and cheer on our gladiators.
