Just a reminder that we have established a new activity for 2025. On Sundays and certain holidays from 9-11am, all five courts are reserved for members to play doubles, on a first-come-first serve basis. No individual court reservations are allowed for this time. The first of the holiday sessions is Monday, Memorial Day. You can find the other holidays on the Club Calendar on our website.
Open House Next Saturday
We will be hosting our 2025 Open House on Saturday May 31, from noon to 3pm. Come for lunch and casual tennis. Open to members and non-members, so invite your friends. No registration required. Come to meet old friends and make new ones, and to tell tall tales about last season (remember when you didn’t lose serve for the entire month of August?).
Calendar of Events
We have finalized the calendar for major events at STC this season:
May 31 Open House
June 21 Member-Guest Tournament
June 28 Women’s Social
July 26-27 Doubles Tournament
August 16-17 Mixed Doubles Tournament
Sept 5-7 Singles Tournament
TBD Fall BBQ
Lost and Found
There are a number of found items in the shed, including tennis racquets, water bottles, and even a pair of glasses. If you are missing something, send an email to Mark Brass (mbrass60@comcast.net) and arrange to have him meet with you to retrieve your stuff.
Yourcourts
We are using yourcourts for the Member Directory, court reservations, activity and tournament registration, challenge ladders, and Find-A-Match. If you have not done so already, please sign in, go to “My Profile”, then the “Privacy” tab to indicate if want to appear in the Member Directory, and, if so, what information you want to show (visible only to other STC members). If you do not have an account, you can request one by going to the yourcourts.com login page and clicking on “Register”. Note: only current members will be granted an account.
Tennis Ladder
We have started a tennis ladder for the 2025 season. It currently has 12 participants, generally at the 3.5-4.5 level. It is run by Zach Snow. You can join by going to “Ladders” in Yourcourts.
Find-A-Match
We have just enabled the Find-A-Match function in Yourcourts. This allows you to search for other players at your level who are available at certain times to play a match. Yourcourts will send them an email with your proposal to play, which they can accept or reject. All communication is done through yourcourts (unless you decide otherwise). If you are interested in participating, go to your My Profile page, click on the Ratings tab and put in your (approximate) USTA rating. Then go to the Find-A-Match tab and indicate your preferences and availability. To initiate a Find-A-Match request, click on the Find-A-Match menu item on the yourcourts home page or home screen. We will see if this function is useful. Obviously it only works if a number of members choose to participate.
Teamreach
Teamreach is another good way to meet other members and set up matches, as well as to discuss all things STC. (Teamreach is a group chat app that you install on your phone). The main group that we use is “STCTennis”. More than 90 of our members have joined this group. We have another group, “STCCourtReport2025” which Mark uses only to post weather-related court openings and closings. That one is useful if you want to turn on notifications, so that you are immediately informed of changes.
Misc
-
Bottle Filler – The bottle filler is permanently out of commission. Unfortunately it was an “indoor” model and didn’t survive the winter. It turns out that outdoor bottle fillers are surprisingly expensive (several thousand dollars). So for now, at least, please use the water fountain to fill your bottle. (The fountain is connected to Sharon town water.) We may install a filter in the feed line to the fountain to improve the taste
-
Guest Fees – The fee for guests to play at the club is $5 per guest per visit, payable by the sponsoring member. A guest may play at STC five times per season. You can pay your guest fees by going to the Members Only page of the website (password is “redclay2025”). It is fine to “batch up” your guest fees and pay once a month
