Pre-Opening Sundries
We are still set to open on Friday!
The courts look great. We are ready for you! I just have a couple items:
Dues. Why is it always about the money? If you wanna play, you gotta pay.
Porta-Potty. The Porta-Potty will be delivered May 1. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience before then.
Request for Pictures. We need more photos of the club. If you have pictures, please email them to me. These will will potentially be used on our website, Facebook page, brochures or other public forums. So, please, no pictures of children (unless they are your own and you consent). If you have other restrictions, let me know.
Website Members Only Area. The Members Only page will be up later this week. There you will be able to find the Member Directory, Activity Contact Info, our TeamReach code (see below), and a Suggestion Box. The password to the Members Only area is “redclay2024”.
Clinics. Club pro Genna Burakovsy will again be conducting 3.0-3.5 clinics on Sunday afternoons. Please note that we have adjusted our clinic pricing. Members may take up to two clinics at a cost of $10 per clinic. After that, each clinic costs $30 for members and $40 for non-members – this gets you a 90-minute clinic. Please contact Genna if you are interested (genbur@gmail.com)
TeamReach for Meet-Your-Match. TeamReach is an app that we will be piloting for Meet-Your-Match connections. The app runs on phones and tablets and can be found on the App Store for your device. This is the app that many pickleball groups use to organize matches. Members of a group can communicate with one another about wanting to play, etc. We have set up a group for the club: “STCTennis” that you may join. Please note that we are not monitoring or moderating the content of this group. If you are looking interested in Meet-Your-Match, join this group and start communicating! If you have your own group of players, consider setting up a code for your group and using this app to coordinate participation. You can set up events, with members of your group registering to participate. (similar to how we use the main website calendar for Karen’s groups). And then let me know how it’s working out.
Facebook page. Our Facebook page is dormant. We’d like to resurrect it, but we don’t know who has administrative privileges. If you know anything about this, please contact me.
Upcoming Events and Activities
Open House. Our first (annual?) Open House will be Saturday May 18, from 11am-3pm. This will be open to both members and non-members and should be a great social/tennis kickoff to the season. We need a few volunteers to help make this a great event. Please let me know if you can lend a hand.
SPEC Tennis. On Sunday May 5 from 2pm-5pm we will be experimenting with a new-ish game called SPEC tennis. SPEC is like a cross between mini-tennis and pickleball. It is played on a smaller court, using paddles and low-pressure kids tennis balls. As experienced tennis players, you will find it very easy to pick up SPEC. We will set up four SPEC courts on two of our courts, so that we can accommodate up to 16 players at the same time. Come out to see what SPEC is like. It’s a slower game than tennis and involves less running, so it is ideally suited for players with mobility limitations as well as those who are just learning tennis. We have a group of experienced SPEC players who will provide equipment and instruction. Feel free to bring your own drinks and snacks for a social after play. If you have more questions, please contact Scott Zenack (sazenack@comcast.net). If you’d like to participate, please register by going to the website Calendar and clicking on the SPEC event.
Doubles Round-Robins. The Doubles Round Robins that Karen Brenner runs will start the week of May 6. If you wish to register, please go to the Calendar on the website and click on the specific event. For more info, contact Karen (kbrenner9@gmail.com).
Women’s Social. We’ve moved up the date of the Women’s Social this year. It will be held June 1 from 11-2. This is a great opportunity to meet other players and have a fun day. For more information, contact Janet Wenzel (janetwenzel13@gmail.com).
See you on the courts!
